Why do people think that the younger generation never saves money? | Does younger generation really wastes money?

It isn't that far from the past when one of the board members of famous car companies told us that the younger generation is only wasting money these days. They don't have a sense of saving money and buying assets.

This is so naive to hear from someone who has been working for someone else.

It’s ironic that starting a business is seen as riskier than getting a job, and yet every job is part of a business.

Everyone in this world seems to have agreed to the notion that younger generations are just running after more and more money, and then also they are not saving anything but buying unnecessary things.

They think that the availability of everything in their childhood has triggered their buying behavior.

But this is not true at all.

One should understand that everyone was young once in their lifetime, and at that time their older generations were having the same notions that you guys are having. This is because this story is moving for several years now.

Every older generation thinks that the younger generation is doing something wrong and that they can't figure out what is the best for them.

It's quite common for the older generation to presume that the younger generation is set on the wrong path. This story is thousands of years old. The problem is that one cannot judge the future based on the past.

To save is to provide for a rainy day; to create a backup when things don't turn out correctly.

The motivation to save can come from positive objectives about living better, retiring early, switching careers, buying a house, and so on. Fear is not an emotion someone with confidence feels much. There will always be a job to do, and money to earn is how a younger person views the world. They believe that there are opportunities to capture and move ahead. They are not imprisoned by the ideas of the past.

Elders also sometimes fail to see that what mattered most to them might not matter at all to the youth. There is so much emphasis on "settling down", which usually starts with getting married, buying a house, and raising a family. These are no longer the priorities of the youth. In a global environment where one can work from anywhere for any organization, in any nationality, the younger generation does not see the need to associate with the concept of home town, nor are they enamored by the idea of settling down.

What younger generation thinks?
The younger generation thinks that elders haven't done justice to their savings. As they stare at the generation of elders, who have worked hard, denied themselves several joys, and built a historically high hoard of inheritance for the next generation, the youth ask if this was even needed. Why save and set money aside for a cause that is not so important?

Many young earners begin their lives with an income much higher than what their parents earned at the end of their hardworking and successful careers.

As the next generation usually does better than the previous one, this notion of "providing for the children" becomes superfluous. The young are unable to understand why such hoarding might be needed. More and more of the older generation realize that they have pushed their fun and leisure activities too much into their old age and that they are unable to use their savings optimally.

Most youngsters believe in the fact that there should be a work-life balance, and hence the fact that older generations have a gap when we talk about the money-saving and spending habits of younger generations.

Attitude towards money is shaped by one's personal experience. But many children that disapprove of a conservative attitude to money might want to not be like their parents. Many parents are surprised when they find out what their children picked up from them, and what they discarded. Some money habits are passed on, some are rejected, and parents cannot control which ones these are.

Conclusion:
The young generation has a mind of their own. Although everyone needs guidance and advice from their parents, but taking too much tension and stressing out is not a solution.

They will deal with money the way they see it as the best way possible. If they must save, they need the motivation that matters to them. The stimulus needs to come from their worldwide and their sense of priority. The elders may not have a role in that process, much as they dislike it.

And this is true, because the situations in which the younger generation is living differ from the older generation, and this is not the first time that this generational gap is so evident. This has happened every single decade, and hence there is nothing to be afraid of.

As you know one thing is clear in anything, "Life finds a way".

Therefore, one should know that saving money is a different ball game with every generation, and in the end, most of us will make it.
