How to pursue mental peace?

We should always pursue mental peace. I have said pursue because it's a constant process, and we cannot just have mental peace and sit down.

Finding mental peace is not always easy. But you can certainly practice some techniques to help you develop the peace that you are aiming for. It is always advisable to consult a professional who deals in mental health if you feel there is some issue.

Below are some of the steps that I usually take to pursue mental peace;

  1. Start your spiritual journey: Several people around the world emphasize the need to balance one's personal and spiritual needs. Spiritual wellness promotes calmness and harmony within yourself and your life, and this is something missing when you are not at peace mentally.

Many times we are so focused on our professional and personal issues that we become tangled in the same.

Try connecting with something bigger than yourself. It doesn't mean that you have to become religious, but you can try believing in the energy that is responsible for everything happening around the world.

You can also try to connect with the beauty of nature or outer space. Finding something outside of yourself to connect with will help bring peace to your mind.

  2. Pursue a hobby: I usually write articles, and blogs when I am sad or want to spend some time alone. This helps me recharge my living batteries and I am also able to declutter myself.

A good way to start is by starting a journal or blog writing. Journaling is an effective way to guide yourself through introspection and find out what might be keeping you from mental peace.

So, when you write blogs or journals, try to incorporate what has happened to you in a particular situation, and how could you have dealt with it in a better way.

  3. Meditate: Meditation is something that you will find in every single mental peace book or article. This is because meditation helps you in focusing on one thing, and that is your soul, and you get rid of everything that is happening in your life.

This in turn helps in ensuring that you can get rid of negative thoughts or at least focus on something creative, because of which your stress levels go down.

  4. Practice Mindfulness: Mindfulness can bring you mental peace by bringing your awareness to the present. Your mental peace can be disrupted by worrying about the future or being crippled by and stuck in the past.

Mindfulness means being aware of your present thoughts, surroundings, and feelings, without placing judgment on them. Mindfulness can also decrease your stress level and blood pressure, which can help produce a sense of calm throughout your body.

Practicing mindfulness can also help you manage your emotions and adapt to stressful or difficult situations.

  5. Let go of the past: It may be impossible to get mental peace if you still suffer because of events from your past. Past sad and traumatic events that are causing you emotional turmoil will certainly make you feel as though you are never at peace.

Several people have dark past events like emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, traumatic events, or even negative home environments. All these types of situations can leave you with guilt, shame, fear, or depression.

If you are not able to get over these feelings, try and connect with a professional, as they can surely guide you with procedures that will distract your focus from the past, and redirect it to your present.

  6. Don't fear the future: This is something that many of us are guilty of doing. We all are fearful of the future, but it is something that we should not do, and most of the stress comes from the tension that we take concerning what is going to happen tomorrow?

This kind of mindset always thinks about the next big problem in advance, and hence are not able to be at peace with their mind.

  7. Avoid negative people: One of the things that you may not know affects your inner peace of mind is the influence of others. Think about the people in your life and try to recognize the influence that they have over your mental state.

Everyone gets through hard times and complains about things, but if there is someone in your life that does this as a normal pattern, he or she may be draining your energy or negatively influencing your mood.

If you have people in your life who are like this, you may need to be careful about the time you spend with them. Also, try to spend more time with people who lift you and add to your sense of mental peace.

  8. Do regular exercise: I cannot insist enough on the fact that doing exercise regularly is an integral part of being mentally at peace.

This is because people that exercise, have more blood pumped to different organs of the body, and they are also more healthy, hence their brain continues to create new neural connections.

Also, when we exercise, we have different feel-good hormones released, that help us in lifting our mood and confidence, which in turn helps us pursue mental peace.

  9. Relax: To find mental peace, you have to find time to relax. This is necessary to create and maintain balance in your life. Relaxation time is when you relieve stress and take your mind off of worries about schedules, obligations, or concerns.

Find which activities truly help you unwind, and do these activities at least once a week to help you find mental peace.

  10. Practice gratitude: To help pursue mental peace, practice gratitude. This is where you look for and remember the things you are thankful for and the blessings you see in your life.

When you take a moment outside of your immediate situation and allow yourself to take a look at all that you have to be grateful for, you can provide yourself with a sense of calm and mental peace and foster a feeling of connection to those around you.

To practice gratitude, you can write about 5 things daily that you are grateful for, and that matters to you so much in your life. This will help focus your mind on things that have a positive effect on your life.

Conclusion:
Although mental peace is not a one-day work. You have to work daily for months altogether, but once you know which things distract your mind from being negative, and when you can focus on the positive side of life, you will be able to pursue mental peace.

Usually, I practice being focused on what I like. Therefore, I keep on writing day in and day out if I feel stressed.

Also, have DESSERTS when you are STRESSED because STRESSED if spelled backward is DESSERTS.

This is my rule of thumb. If I am sad or angry, and can't focus on things that are important in my life, I usually have some desserts, and then instantly I feel really good, and this also gives me some time to ponder on things that are not in my control.

Because things that are not in our control, need not be worried about, we can only change the things that are in our control, and one of the greatest things that we have in our control is our mind. If you kept it from wandering in the past or future, you will surely be able to pursue mental peace.
