Hyderabad is one of the fastest-growing Indian cities and that is because of the IT sector that has boosted its revenue. Well, that will be wrong to say because there are several manufacturing and health care companies also in Hyderabad that have contributed to its overall growth and development.

Several people from different parts of the country come to Hyderabad for work and studies as well. This ensures a constant inflow of revenue for the city, which also makes it one of the most sought-after places in India.

Having said that there are several other reasons, why people come and settle in Hyderabad, and some of those reasons also include safety and security, which ensures proper growth and development of people.

Even when I praise Hyderabad, but still several things can make you think again before deciding to shift to Hyderabad. So, below are some of the things that you should consider before shifting to Hyderabad;

  1. There are no 4 seasons here:
Now here I am not talking about the 4 seasons hotel, but about the seasons we experience in North India, i.e., Spring, Summer, Autumn & Winter. Yes, that's correct.

One of my professors said to me before shifting to Hyderabad from Pune that there are 2 seasons in Hyderabad - Hot & Very Hot, and I kind of agree with what he said. This is because when it's hot, it's dry and hot as it is near the equator, and when it rains, it is hot with humidity (but not as humid as Mumbai).

It's been more than 4 years and I usually crib for only one thing in Hyderabad, and that is cold weather.

Still, weather like this is suitable for several people that may have sensitivity towards cold or for older people who may not be able to tolerate the cold weather. One can say that it's kind of fine when you are under shade, and you don't sweat a lot here in Hyderabad, but when you go out in heat then you feel the intensity of the sun.

Having said that only 3 months here in Hyderabad are awful in terms of weather and that is from April to June, because after that rains come, and you get a bit of comfort, but before that, you even sweat when you are asleep at night. So, from April to June, you feel the need for an AC 100%.

  2. Don't ignore sunscreen:
This was my mistake when I first came to Hyderabad, I didn't keep my sunscreen with me and roamed around the city wearing half pants and t-shirts. This caused some sunburns and I realized this is not a place to just roam anywhere without sunscreen.

Do you think that you have a work-from-home at Hyderabad so you won't get tanned or sunburned? Think again.

As covid 19 gave this flexibility for us to work from anywhere, we used to sit at our home in our slippers all day long for two years, because of which we have not got tan lines on our feet as if we had exposed our feet to the sun the last 2 years wearing slippers. And this is the issue with every single person living here in Hyderabad who is working from home.

Don't believe me? Ask your friends after coming to Hyderabad at a dinner party at your home, and see their feet, especially people who work from home. You will see it :)

Therefore, invest some money in good sunscreen and apply it after every 2 hours at least, to keep yourself safe from those tan lines or shall I say "Hyd-Lines". Just for fun!

  3. Be ready for mosquitoes:
When I came to Hyderabad, I asked one of the mattress sellers, "I hope there are no mites in your mattress". In reply, he said, "In Hyderabad, you won't have to take any tension about mites, but about mosquitoes".

I thought I have been to Chandigarh, Pune, Lonavala, and some other parts of India, so I am comfortable dealing with mosquitoes, but then I hit the reality.

Mosquitoes in Hyderabad are kind of larger and they are not affected by mosquito liquids. You have to specifically close a room or flat and then burn a mosquito repellent coil there and then only you can sleep in that room. Especially in the rain.

It is also better if you can invest in a small AC and mosquito net, or else you will have to struggle like every one of us. I guess mosquito nets are really good or you can also try those electric mosquito bats which are priced anywhere from 199 to 699 in any departmental store.

  4. Don't expect to explore tourist destinations:
If you have come here to work or to study, you will not get enough time to explore famous tourist destinations in Hyderabad. Especially Char Minar and Golconda Fort, and this is not only because of time but also because of the weather.

Imagine on a scorching hot day, you have gathered the courage to visit Char Minar or Golconda Fort, and you go there also, and you see a crowd that you may have not seen after Kumbh Mela. Also, you merely get to explore those places peacefully. So, my advice will be to explore those destinations when the crowd is less, that means on a weekday.

Also, once you have been to these places, you usually think of exploring something that is easy to access and has less sun exposure. Better alternatives will be to explore restaurants, cafes, and staycation destinations in Hyderabad and around it because it is filled with awesome places.

  5. The nearest city is at least 530 km:
When you come to Hyderabad, you think of going to somewhere nearby place like you used to do in North India. There if you are in Chandigarh, then you have access to J&K, Delhi, Dharamshala, Dehradun, Kasauli, etc, and all that is within 500 km. But when you are in Hyderabad, you have only Nagpur at 530 km, and everything else is far away.

It is after reaching Hyderabad that you realize India is too big to travel on your own.

But there are some awesome places nearby Hyderabad, which is still unexplored and has great potential, you just need to gear up and visit those places.

My experiences are because I am from North India, therefore, I prefer going to places that are cold, or which have people that I know. For example, my relatives are spread across Jaipur, Delhi, Uttrakhand, J&K, and Himachal Pradesh, because of which those places become a comfort zone for me to travel, and those are accessible from each other easily if you are at a center point, let's say at Chandigarh or Delhi.

Similarly, several places in Hyderabad are accessible, but obviously, you will need some local guidance at that time to explore those places.

  6. Strict traffic rules:
Now one of the best things about Hyderabad is its safety and sense of security, which is obviously because of its police and especially the traffic police. Traffic rules are strict in Hyderabad, and there is strict no-nonsense concerning crimes like drunk driving.

You won't be left with a challan, but you will have to spend a few nights in lock up if you are found guilty of drunk driving. I had read one article on this, and I have even seen traffic police taking those machines out for checking alcohol levels and keeping vehicles of people found guilty.

These things are important because, although someone may say it is a small thing, these all strict rules make a place safe for people living in it.

  7. Language is not a barrier:
If someone has told you to not shift to Hyderabad because you may have trouble because of the language barrier, then this means that people haven't lived in Hyderabad at all.

Hyderabad has people from different parts of India, and most of them speak Hindi or Urdu, and yes many speak purely Telugu, but you will find it fun as you will have a new language to learn.

  8. PG, Hostels, and Flats:
Hyderabad is costly, no matter what people say, and most of the time this is because we don't do our research before shifting to Hyderabad.

It is always better to search for flats and PGs online and then directly go to those locations physically to examine the flats or hostels. When I came to Hyderabad, my strategy was to search for a room nearby to my office but not close to it, so I had a diameter of 15 km from my office so I searched for my room.

I used to search for rooms online and go to examine those flats physically and this I did for 3 days before joining the company, this helped me a lot because I didn't have to take any tension about finding rooms as I came to Hyderabad 3 days earlier, and then I asked my family to come.

Also, PGs or Hostels are affordable, you can easily get a hostel or around 6k with food, and this will be nearby to your office also. Having said that, you can comment below also and I will try to guide you with hostels or flats, as I have got an idea about where to search for hotels or flats for rent.

  9. Real estate is in crores:
Many people think of buying Real Estate Properties in Hyderabad, and we usually think about flats or plots. But today real estate properties like flats or plots are around 1 or 2 crores, and I am only telling you about the starting prices.

But you should buy these properties because these properties are at least 2000 sq ft in size and per square foot, the size starts from 5000 to 8000. Even though you are paying in crores, but you get a huge enough space for yourself and your family. Also, in the future, as the city grows, there will be fewer flats available with the configuration and prices like these.

Comment below if you want to know more about the flats and how to choose which brands, and we will try to guide you with the brands and properties to look for.

  10. Water issues:
Although it is not that severe, you should be careful about which area are you choosing for living in Hyderabad because most of the houses built have groundwater supply and no municipal water supply in some areas, which makes water availability difficult during summers.

Big societies have good water supply, but you should invest in water purifiers as for drinking, you may have to buy it from local water distribution companies. These are local water distributors which fill 10-liter bisleri bottles with water and give it for 30 rupees.

When you are new and live alone, at that time this may be fine, but for a regular supply of drinking water, water purifiers are important. Also, save as much water as you can, in your drums, etc. This trip was a general tip, because this may be applied in different cities and not only in Hyderabad specifically.

  11. Ola and Uber are the new local transport:
Although there are buses, and those are reliable, I am talking from the perspective of what a newcomer sees when he or she comes to Hyderabad. Most of the cab systems or local transport are being replaced by Ola and Uber. So even if you want to travel to your office, you may have to book a cab online or rent a bike through various options like Bounce, etc.

I have seen people using these applications more often than waiting for a bus or shuttle. So, it is better to install these applications before coming to Hyderabad. I am also recommending this because several people coming from small villages might not have these services, and when they search for local buses, they get confused because destination names are written in Telugu.

  12. Nonveg is competitively placed with veg in Hyderabad:
Many people say that Kolkata is the cheapest with regards to food, but I will say that Hyderabad has a good variety of food available, and if you are a non-vegetarian person, then you have a different variety of the same product available also. For example, did you know that we can make egg pakodas?

Well, this is possible and I never knew about it before coming to Hyderabad.

Conclusion;
These were a few things that I wanted you guys to know about before coming to Hyderabad. I know there can be more things, so if you are living in Hyderabad and if you would like to add some more things to this article, just write it down in the comments below and I will add that to this article.

There will also be several other things that are important with regards to Hyderabad and might be specialties, which I might have missed, please feel free to include those in the comment section below.
