Cosmetic Raw Materials That Can Hamper Male and Female Reproductive Functions

image

Cosmetics are widely used to enhance beauty. But we hardly think that they can affect us more than we realize.

Several studies have happened on cosmetics being related to poor productivity health. The chemicals present in cosmetics and beauty products have shown various complications and side effects on the hormonal, as well as the reproductive system of males and females.

Most of the cosmetics, including nail polish, anti-bacterial soaps, anti-aging creams, hair sprays, and perfumes, have a severe effect on female fertility due to the toxic chemicals present in them.

Anti-bacterial soaps that help you get rid of germs may contain the chemical "triclosan", which is linked to the endocrine disruption that messes up with your hormones and interferes with the reproductive system.

Parabens are a type of preservative used in soaps, shampoos, and conditioners, that prevent the growth of bacteria. But too much of it can have an impact on fertility. When our hormones are out of balance, the chances of creating healthy eggs or healthy sperm are reduced.

Although most of the cosmetic products that are on market are tested, proper studies with regards to fertility are done or not are still in question. Having said that, most of the chemicals are in cosmetic products used by ladies, like nail polish, conditioners, lipsticks, etc.

Men on the other hand use, less cosmetic products. But the scenario is changing now. Men who have been exposed to common chemicals known as parabens have lower testosterone levels and more sperm that are abnormally shaped and slow-moving.

Higher levels of parabens in the urine are also associated with DNA damage in the sperm and what is known as decreased mortality.

It is difficult to get rid of parabens as these are present in several cosmetic products like sunscreens, mascara, body lotions, facial lotions, sprays or gels, etc. But few companies have started manufacturing paraben-free cosmetic products, and those are the ones that we should go for.

Conclusion;
Several people think only hard-core cosmetic products have ingredients that might affect reproductive health, and all are used by women.

But this is not true, even some simple hair or beard oils, and soaps may consist of raw materials that are bad for humans. So, it is better to check for the ingredient list on the back of every cosmetic or personal care product that you use.
