For many foundations is the starting point of any makeup, and knowing how to apply foundation is not a small task.

We all want a beautiful glowing complexion, and foundation should be able to do it and also hide scars and blemishes in the process. But often despite our best efforts to apply foundation the right way, we end up with a visible chalky mask.

To simplify the foundation process, we broke the exact steps, and techniques that will help you get the most natural-looking finish, every time.

        Step 1: Clean Your Face
It is important to remove all traces of makeup and wash your face every night to maintain a beautiful face for foundation.

To ensure this is achieved, use a cotton swab with rose water or face cleaning water and gently cleanse your face. Don't do it fast, and allow yourself some time to reach to all the nooks and corners of your face and remove any oil or grime on your face.

        Step 2: Prepare Your Face
Foundations have a bad name for getting dry and flaky, but most of the time it is because we have not prepared our faces for applying foundation properly. Even the heaviest matte foundation can look soft and natural, as long as you correctly prep and hydrate your skin with a good moisturizer.

After you have cleansed your face, massage a thin layer of moisturizer all over your face, letting the cream skin in for five to ten minutes before applying your foundation.

Step 3: Find Your Shade Carefully
Many foundations also have a shade card available, that you can use to check your skin tone and shade. Or consult your salon before going with a foundation.

Now that you have selected the foundation, add two pumps to your palms, then use a foundation brush to dab the foundation into your skin, starting at the center of the face and blending outward. Don't worry about making it look perfect just yet. We will get to that part in the next steps.

        Step 4: Blend Your Foundation
Grab a damp makeup sponge (make sure to squeeze out any extra water) and gently dab over your foundation. Just make sure that you never smudge or swipe the side of the sponge over your face to seamlessly melt the foundation into your skin.

Be sure to use the pointed tip of the sponge when blending out the foundation around your nose and eyes.

Step 5: Top Off Your Foundation
Top on a concealer with your ring finger for extra coverage to conceal zits, acne scars, or redness. Let it sit for five minutes, then lightly bounce the tip of your sponge over the concealer to blend it out without smudging it off.

        Step 6: Fine-Tune Your Foundation
To keep your foundation intact till the sun dips in, dust a translucent powder over your T-zone, which is where all skin types get oily first. It should be done with a fluffy brush.

Dip the brush in the powder, then tap off the excess and swirl it over your forehead, nose, and chin in soft, concentric circles.

        Step 7: You Are Ready
You can see yourself in the mirror, and you will see beautiful skin that has a foundation that is going to last long without cracking in between.
