World Book Day

The current pandemic has changed the dynamics in education, human interactions, business governance, and how the world perceives itself. In these times of "quarantine" and "isolation", people have discovered "loneliness" and the results of this discovery don't look very good.

Loneliness has exposed people to addictive tendencies like increased use of social media, substance use, etc. Even children, since they are supposed to be at home for long periods of time are being exposed to longer hours of "screen". In these toxic times, World Book  Day becomes an important harbinger of hope and change. Now, one may wonder how?

Books are the hardbound essence of friendship, love, harmony, and relationship. Diving deep into what the author wants to communicate to you, one can make friends, hate the villains and make foes, fall in love with a character and the "loneliness" turns into "solitude". Books play a major role in shaping language skills, helping nurture creativity and the art of reading between the lines. Books, containing prose or poetry are doorways to cultures and information and a handheld bundle of joy.

Though now books have shifted to their online versions, the joy of holding a paper book needs to be known by the generation which has grown up with screens. Thus, World Book Day in these times of uncertainty should be projected as a movement for going back to the roots going back to books.
