Latest Trends in HR

This article will look ahead for an idea of which HR trends will continue to drive transformation and how it is going to shape the future.

1. Work From Home is Here to Stay:

Sometimes we wish all the changes that are happening should be triggered by some positive event. But this one was triggered by a Pandemic, and it seems to be here for some time. Most of the companies are trying to hire people on contract and giving work from home. This has also helped in positive terms to several candidates.

They can now work for international clients and earn in foreign currencies without the tension of work visas and all.

On the other hand, this has also resulted in fear in several individuals who belong to the last generation. This is because most of them have worked from office and this change actually plays a toll on the mind as well. Now, the challenges are to get acquainted with technology and work with a generation that is way ahead of them in that perspective.

Then there come the contract jobs. Because of this Pandemic, organizations have started taking candidates on contracts. This is because contracts help them getting rid of all the government benefits that employee is entitled to. This also gives a mental challenge to all candidates as they know, after the completion of 6 months or 1 year, they have to search again for jobs.

and we used to talk about employee loyalty ...

For some the change is permanent, Twitter made the decision to let every employee who doesn't need to be in the office work from home forever if they choose to. Similarly, Microsoft also stated that they are going to have to work from home to a limit as part of their office culture.

Therefore, it is clear that the virtual mode of work will not discontinue once the pandemic is over.

2. Development and Implementation of HRMS systems are becoming popular:

Because organizations are doubling up on technology and scaling up their work from home efforts, HR Departments are finding development and implementation work a challenge. This has open a new gateway for candidates. Now, the implementation of HRIS or HRMS or Employee Self Service Portals is becoming popular, and there is a reason behind this.

Most of the organizations had a small number of employees, now they are grown and hence their tracking has become difficult. All organizations require a working HRMS system to make HR functions run smoothly. This also requires HR's to deal with vendors, and that part is no luxury.

There are several products available online. If you will search for HRMS systems, you will find more than 50 new start-ups that are delivering the same service.

but the question comes, which one is best for our organization?

To solve this query of organizations, they require someone who has hands-on experience of working on databases and dealing with vendors as well. Recently on LinkedIn, there were several job opportunities for HRMS implementation experts.

Yes, organizations are still asking for 25 years old people to have 20 years of experience in development and implementation.

and then organizations ask "why have you jumped so many jobs"?

Ans: I was trying to get 20 years of experience for your company and my age is 25

3. IT Recruiters seem to be the luckiest:

Well, everyone will have to agree to this fact that, there are way more jobs in IT Recruitment these days.

This might be because all companies have together started searching for IT people around the world. So, if you really want to make a career in this pandemic, go for IT Recruitment.

sales people are getting jobs in recruitments ...

HR is becoming more specialized now. Organizations don't need people who have studied HR. They require people from Finance, Marketing, IT, and Operations in the HR Team. Oh, I forgot, the LLB's also.

and we ask, why don't students opt for HR anymore ...

This is way too serious a problem than we think and this might be because the education that leads to HR Job Role is not relevant these days, or might be organizations have just gone nuts.

4. HR Jobs are higher paying than before:

And this should be the case. HR's are the people who have to give answers to both shareholders and stakeholders. This makes their work one of the most mentally challenging.

but you can't make everyone happy ...

HR is now taking part in strategic decision making because they have data, that was meaningless before the advent of analytics. Organizations have started recognizing HRD as more profit-oriented hence they have made that change.

but it has become more challenging to enter into HR now ... You need to prove yourself first ... Money comes later

5. Employee Engagement is not Rangoli Making Competition anymore:

Employee Engagement programs have changed a lot since a decade. There has been a tremendous change in how HR's used to conduct a program and how they do it now.

Now, employee engagement is more about people showing up to the office with motivation and energy.

I personally hated Rangoli's ...

I was in engagement teams in several companies, and it involves conducting benefit sessions for employees. Assisting employees in need. Providing them with tools to balance their work-life.

I hope these all will give you an idea about how HRD is changing from the inside out. I will really appreciate it if you can comment below with your precious feedbacks and ideas about how HR is changing now.

I might have missed something ...
