All about Hand Sanitizers

Sanitizers! A common word that protected us from the disease - novel coronavirus. Sanitizers portrayed themselves as the backbone for every person. Before vaccination, sanitizers were only the hope to use as precautions to the affected as well as an unaffected person. 

And today we are going to have a brief description of "Sanitizers". 

Starting from the tip, Sanitizer is in liquid form or gel either in foam. It is used to cleanse your hand. Probably, before covid-19 sanitizers were eventually used to clean your hand when you are not available with soap or water. Sanitizers kill the virus and bacteria from your hand and keep you safe. Before covid sanitizers were an option for the people to use as an ultimate option but now using sanitizer has become a necessity for every people. 

Introduction of sanitizers: 

Hand sanitizers were popularized in the early 1990s. It was introduced in 1966 in California. When a nursing student combined the alcohol and gel to cleanse their hand. It was pointed out by the glimpse of the story of Lupe Hernandez, inventor of hand sanitizers. He said that they did not have time while treating the patients so they used it as a cleanser. 

Popularization of sanitizer:

During the wake of H1N1 swine flu in the US, it was prescribed to use alcohol-based sanitizers as it kills and protects the body from germs. 

The second rise was in India during Covid-19. When a large number supply urged during March 2020. And, it continued till today as precautionary met all over the world. 

Types of sanitizer:

There are two types of sanitizer looking at the present scenarios. Alcohol-based sanitizer and non-alcoholic sanitizers. Alcohol sanitizers kill bacteria and virus which saves people from entering the body. Alcohol percentage in sanitizers ranges up to 60%. And it assures that it kills 99% of germs. If acts as an antiseptic. 

Non-alcoholic sanitizers are which help to cleanse your hand. It consists of glycerin which is to nourishes and smoothes your hand.

According to WHO (World Health Organization), using sanitizer is an effective way while you are not available with water. Let's have look over it valuable points: 

It is effective: Hand sanitizers are effective over viruses and bacteria as compared to soap. According to research, it is termed out that sanitizers last longer than the soap if not interfere with any soap or cream.

Gentle than Soap: Along with safety, it also provides you the qualitative skin. As it consists of glycerin present in it, which smoothen and your skin and softens it.

Free from bacteria: As there is high-level consumption of alcohol in it, which initiates in itself to kill 99% germs. 

Some drawbacks are too associated with are:

Toxic in nature: Due to it contains ethyl and alcohol it becomes toxic. If it is ingested it can lead to alcohol poisoning. So it is prescribed to keep reach out of children.

Fire hazard: Due to it is flammable it has a risk of fire associated with it if it is immediately exposed to fire after applying.

Kills good bacteria: As its properties are to kill bacteria, it kills both good and bad bacteria.

Cleanse invisible germs: It does not cleanse your visible dirt which is a little drawback to it as it is prescribed for cleansing but it doesn't cleanse the surface.

Causes irritation: Due to its flammable properties if it is used to rub your eyes or touch-sensitive parts of your body immediately after applying it, it can irritate.

Do's

  • Use hand sanitizer when not available with soap or water. 

  • Use the sanitizer with 60% alcohol consumption.

  • Coat it around your palm and fingers as well. 

  • Rub on your palm around 20-30 seconds 

  • Keep it reaches out to children.

  • Keep away from flammable products. 

  • Use when files are not visible

Dont's 

  • Don't rinse your hand after applying sanitizer as it won't work if counter by any other substance. 

  • Do not touch your eyes or your mouth immediately after applying it. 

  • Don't expose your hand to fire until it is absorbed.

Sanitizers are made to protect you from germs. If it is used in its correct way it will lead to benefit you. Use sanitizers, Be Safe, and Be Healthy!
