We recently got an opportunity to connect with Adrian Holman, an awesome blogger who writes for Newsbreak. After reading some articles that he has written about sports and politics, we thought about connecting with him for a quick catch-up about his journey as a blogger.

As a writer/blogger, Adrian has excellent experience in jotting down detailed information about the events or stories that he follows and has written some great blogs that you can check out by following the bookmark link above.

Below are some of the questions that we asked Adrian and his response gives an insight into ways by which young bloggers can work towards their blogging success.

What inspired you to start blogging?
The inspiration to start blogging was to have some steady income so that I no longer have to hop from job to job anymore.

What is the focus of your blog and how did you choose this niche?
The priority is to write about local events because that is what is required from NewsBreak.

What sets your blog apart from others in your niche?
I also write about sports, politics, and cultural events in order to bring an overall impact to the reader of my blog posts.

How do you come up with ideas for blog posts?
I keep track of current events.

What is your blogging routine like?
I write down the date of an event that I would like to write about. Then, I write about that event a day or two before the actual date of the event.

How do you handle writer's block?
I stop for a second, and I play some Candy Crush. Then, the words begin to flow again. Working on a puzzle or a game helps to unlock writer's block for me.

How do you measure the success of your blog?
The measure of success is based on views and the amount of outrage that is generated. Last week, I wrote a post that obtained 1,500 views that were controversial.

Can you talk about a particularly successful post or campaign you’ve run on your blog?
My most successful post was from last month in regard to the state of Illinois seeking to eliminate cash bail. If there is no cash bail, then there will be no consequences for committing a crime.

How do you promote your blog and reach new audiences?
I promote on Twitter and LinkedIn. Building up a following on social media will continue to allow me to reach new audiences.

How do you handle negative comments or feedback on your blog?
Most of the time I just let the comments go unless I detect a keyboard warrior. Then, I comment back until I destroy that particular keyboard warrior. Plus, I read excerpts from Psalm 109 every day because they bring about curses and destruction upon my opposition.

Can you talk about your experience with search engine optimization (SEO) and how it has affected your blog?
The only experience I have with SEO is that I take a few seconds to think about the tags I use for each blog post. The key is to always look to remain unique even though we live on a planet with over 8 billion people.

How do you stay up to date with the latest trends in your niche?
I keep track of local news via local radio stations and local TV station websites. I keep track of sports via ESPN.com. I also keep track of world news from sites based on each continent.

Can you discuss your monetization strategies for your blog?
The strategy is to always write what I want to write about even if I think that post will not bring about many views. Discouragement must never become an option.

How do you balance your personal life with your blogging commitments?
The key is to set apart time every day for blogging commitments only. Once those daily commitments are achieved, then I have plenty of time for my personal life. One or two hours is all that is needed per day in order to prevent burnout.

Can you share any challenges you’ve faced as a blogger and how you overcame them?
The biggest challenge is that blogging opportunities come and go. The only way to overcome this is to keep going. Whoever endures to the end always wins.

How do you handle collaborations with brands and sponsors?
I go by whatever the brands and sponsors want. Self-pride must be thrown out of the window in any collaboration.

How do you handle multiple blogging projects and priorities?
With multiple projects, the key is to schedule a time period for each project.

What advice do you have for new bloggers starting out?
Do not compare the number of views you receive in comparison to what famous bloggers receive. The views will come if you continue to write well. Keep the spelling and punctuation as clean as possible. The reader will pay more attention to what you write when you choose to remain detailed.

What are your future goals for your blog?
The future goal for my blog is to continue to keep the 2,000 followers on my blog engaged enough in order to remain followers.

How do you see the future of blogging and its impact on the online world?
Blogging will have more of an impact on the online world going forward as more people switch to streaming services. The more cords being cut means the more people will be online seeking blog posts for information and insight instead of going towards traditional media.
