The Kashmir Files - A Movie that became the voice of Genocide

image

The Kashmir Files is a movie that depicts the Genocide that occurred in Kashmir Valley in the 90s. It was directed by Vivek Agnihotri

Although the film takes us through a fictional storyline, it is centered around the Genocide of Kashmiri Pandits & their mass exodus in the 1990s.

The Kashmir Files movie stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi. The movie revolves around a Kashmiri Hindu college student, raised by his exiled grandfather and shielded from the truth of the circumstances of the death of his parents. The movie plot alternates between the student's quest in the present time, i.e., 2020, and his family's history which leads to the truth that was hidden from him & several others around the world.

Initially, several anti-national groups and people asked for this movie to get banned because according to them, this movie showed Muslims as bad. But in the movie itself, the narrator and the lead actor "Darshan Kumar" has a line where he says that all people who supported India and wanted peace were killed (something on this line).

What was the main objective of The Kashmir Files Movie?
There are several groups of people who say that movies only show the bad side of Kashmir and that Hindus were the only suppressed.

But the reality was that the movie depicted a truth that several people around the world were unaware of. Its main objective was to bring the truth in front of everyone in the world, as this genocide occurred when there was no social media network to leak the truth across the nation.

Several news channels only showed things that the government wanted people to see. This was also because people were afraid of getting things out, because they may get exposed and become targets of terrorists.

Did this move get credit for the work it did?
The Kashmir Files, was one of the most successful movies of 2022, and not because it was dramatic, but because it showed the truth without any seasoning.

Actors gave their best and their overall work was such that as a viewer we would be able to understand their pain and agony. Each speech and dialogue was a question to ourselves about our existence & the torture that happened to the Kashmiris that were targeted.

Despite all the opposition, and resistance this movie gained the love of several people around the world.

Several states in India also made this movie tax-free so that more and more people can see this movie.

It was initially planned to launch in around 600 theatres approximately but ended up featuring in 4000 theatres, which shows the impact that this movie had on people across India.

What all issues did The Kashmir Files movie face?
Away from the resistance from several anti-social people, this movie also faced issues in the beginning, because fewer theatres were ready to feature this movie.

Also, people propagating bad reviews were working 24/7 to pull down The Kashmir Files.

Conclusion;
The Kashmir Files gives insights into what happened in the 1990s and is one of the most heart-touching movies, that will also make us all think about the cruelties that a human can endure.

As a society, Kashmir Pandits have worked hard to settle now in different parts of the world, but still, there was in heart of everyone that their stories were not out and that they were just treated as Migrants in their own country.

Although the violence shown in movies is not something that would be encouraged, but if the truth is so horrific, one cannot hide it in the cinema, and even if they tried to cover everything, even thinking about the violence sends chills across the spine.

But the motto of this movie was not to spread hatred or horror, but to present the reality, that people around the world didn't know.
