Can we use Air Conditioner (AC) Water for Hair Wash and Bathing?

Air Conditioner (AC) Water is water of condensation from humidity in the air. We can think of using it for hair wash and bathing. If an AC is working properly, the water drips down from the coil into a condensate pan and then exits the unit through a drain or tube.

Although many claims that water that drains out from AC is safe enough to drink, that is when the water is properly filtered, and then also it lacks essential minerals that make water taste as we know it.

It usually is safe for consumption, if it is filtered using a good water purifier and it should only be used in a situation if there is no other source of drinking water available. This is because it may contain fungus or other microbes that get accumulated inside the drainpipe, or which are sucked by the AC.

But can we use it for Hair Wash and Bathing?
Well, its answer is probably not, this is because it consists of those harmful fungi or microbes that like moist areas of your Air Conditioner.

Some people have used it for hair washing in past and they have reported hair loss issues and hair feeling rough. This is because of the dust and microbes in AC water.

You might be knowing Alopecia is caused by a fungus right?

Can AC Water be used for anything at all?
Yes, water that drains from the Air Conditioner is free from chlorine, salt, or any chemicals, so it can be used for watering plants, washing windows, cars, and even decorative items.

If you kept the coils clean, filtered the air blowing over them, and captured the water immediately, then yes, the water is very clean and pure. Probably as pure as distilled water.

The pure condensed water is neutral (pH 7). However, water in contact with air is slightly acidic (approx. pH 5.6) due to dissolved carbon dioxide (CO2).

Conclusion;
So one can say, it is better to keep AC water for watering plants and washing your windows. It is not advisable to use it for hair wash or bathing as it may cause hair loss in the wrong run, and who knows some other skin issues.

But yes, in a situation where you don't have access to clean water, you can boil this water, filter it and then use it for cleaning hair or bathing, but that is also in extreme cases when you have no other options left.
