The cosmetic industry is growing at a really fast pace these days. Ranging from cosmetics startups to more natural products, technological advancements are happening in the cosmetic or beauty industry regularly.

As technology grows, trends in the cosmetics industry are also affected by the same. Below are some of the latest advancements in the cosmetics industry;

1. Recycling Other Industry Chemicals:
The cosmetics industry is growing daily and the latest approach to sustainability that companies are embarrassing is recycling natural by-products or ingredients and waste from food and agriculture to create active ingredients for cosmetics.

This also ensures that there is less carbon footprint, and hence less pollution, which enables creating a mutually profitable economy. This is because the waste products, which might not be useful for agriculture, can benefit if properly formalized.

2. Blockchain Technology in Cosmetics:
Blockchain has been a say for some years now. As a technology, several companies have already started focusing on the benefits of Blockchain. 

It is being used for;

  • Tracing Raw Materials to their origin
  • Checking ownership of the products
  • Tracing Trademarks and Patents of Formulations, etc.

3. Artificial Intelligence for finding new Ingredients:
Technology is enabling the reinvention of traditional ingredients in numerous ways. There are ways by which Artificial Intelligence helps in discovering ways of molecular association, which helps companies save a lot of money on testing of cosmetics products, and research and development.

4. Cosmetic Wearables:
Several companies worldwide has started developing cosmetic products, which can be applied without getting exhausted at all. 

You can consider them like chewing gums of cosmetics.

Products can be applied on body parts, and then can be taken off and preserved to be used for a set usage period. This way, there is a lot more reduction in the amount of money spent on cosmetics products, as maximum of them can be used again and again, without tension of its getting exhausted.

5. Mobile Application for Testing Cosmetics Products:
Although testing of cosmetics products is done in malls and specific shops, but because of this pandemic, and hygiene issues, several companies have developed their mobile applications, which customers can use to see realtime results by applying a particular cosmetic product.

These things are majorly getting famous in color cosmetics, which requires testing as per skin shade, and suggestions by cosmetic assistants, which are replaced by Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning Algorithms.

6. Better Aging as the New Anti-aging:
Anti-aging was some trend of the past, where people used to think that we shouldn't age, but now people know that aging is a part of life, and although there are organizations which are working on stopping the aging process, right now it is better to age gracefully rather than thinking we can stop aging at this point of time.

There are several organizations, who are working towards creams, and lotions specific to old age. These cosmetic products help in removing issues of skin, which are caused due to aging process, as a result of which people can have a better old age without much complexities of skin.

7. Hydrotalcites for controlled delivery:
Synthetic layered double hydroxide clays (LDHs) have attracted attention due to their easily tuned chemical composition, biocompatibility, and lack of toxicity. Structurally, these materials comprise positively charged layers and charge-balancing exchangeable anions located in their interlayer regions. They are currently used as carriers of drugs, amino acids and antibiotics, and show good results in terms of controlled release, drug loading and the protection of labile biomolecules. 

In cosmetics, these materials serve as rheology modifiers, mattifying agents, multifunctional excipients, absorbents and texturizing agents. 

8. Therapeutic Cosmetics:
The future promises more increasingly sophisticated formulations for cosmetics and skincare products.

The trend towards therapeutic cosmetics is sure to result in the need for the dermatologist to obtain a better understanding of modern ingredients and assessment techniques.
