It is essential to understand that sunscreens help us to make our skin better by restraining the harmful UV radiations (UVA, UVB, IR).

What is SPF?
SPF or Sun Protection Factor is a marker of how well your sunscreen can protect your skin from UV rays (UVA and UVB rays). UVA rays can penetrate deep into your skin and cause age spots, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation, while UVB rays give you sunburn and even cause skin cancer.

A sunscreen that contains inorganic chemicals can deflect both UVA and UVB radiation.

It is better to use sunscreen or a cosmetic product with SPF between 15 to 50. A sunscreen that has SPF 15 can block 93% of UV radiations, while one that has SPF 30 can block 97% of the UVB radiations.

I had sensitive skin, one dermatologist suggested that I use sunscreen every 2 to 3 hours of sun exposure and was advised to wash my face before applying sunscreen.

But the issue comes when we are in the show business, and we have to use a lot of color cosmetics to keep our skin glowing all day long.

So, how can we use sunscreens with makeup?
Well, there is one way by which you can use sunscreens. You need to understand, Foundations and Primers these days also have some SPF protection, so most of the time you don't have to worry about sunscreens.

But if you have checked, and it is not clear if your foundation has SPF protection, you can actually use the below steps to protect your skin;

1. Wash your face
2. Pat Dry it
3. Apply Moisturizer
4. Spray Sunscreen on your face
5. Apply Primer
6. Apply Foundation
7. Then apply other cosmetic products

This will ensure that your skin has good sunscreen protection. Although you will require to wash it off after 5 to 6 hours, you will still get better protection.

You can use caution while buying cosmetic products
While you are buying cosmetic products, keep in mind that all the products you buy should have SPF protection mentioned on the label.

This will make it easy for you to keep your skin from getting damaged because of harmful sun radiations.

Also, you can keep a sprayable sunscreen lotion with yourself, which you can spray on your body parts, which are exposed to sunlight and don't have any makeup on.

How to choose sunscreen if you are using makeup?
While choosing a sunscreen, pick one that has at least SPF 30 and consists of ingredients like;

• Titanium dioxide
• Zinc Oxide
• Avobenzone

You can also use powder sunscreen, which can be used over your makeup for better protection from sun rays.
