First, let's understand what clogged pores are? Pores are the small opening on the skin that allows it to breathe and sweat. When small pores trap dead skin cells, they get clogged and create a problem for the skin to function at its best. 

So, clogged pores arise due to dead skin cells getting trapped in your skin. Your tiny openings in the skin that ooze oil and sweat and make your skin supple. When pores are clogged, it can cause blackheads, whiteheads, and acne.

You can say if your pores get clogged you notice whiteheads, blackheads, or an overall dullness to your skin’s complexion.

It is a myth that the pores present on the skin which they can open and close. Everyone’s skin has pores, but we can only reduce the appearance of the pores and cannot make them close completely. These pores keep your largest organ alive by allowing it to breathe and sweat. The reason for having pores on your skin is to make your skin healthy and let them breathe. A good skincare routine and some natural hacks help to reduce the size of the pores and make them smooth and healthy.

What are common causes for clogged pores?
Skin pores become clogged due to the below reasons:

  • Excessive touching of the face to pop acne.
  • Not following a basic, 3-step skincare routine of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing.
  • Dead skin cells develop on the skin, which must be exfoliated at least twice a week. Don’t over-exfoliate the skin as it can increase the oil production in your skin and further clog the pores.
  • Makeup stays on the surface of the skin and is not being cleaned properly. It is suggested to adopt double-cleansing the face to get rid of all traces of makeup and prevent further clogging of pores. It would also help to decrease pimples.

Natural Cleanser to Reduce Appearance of Enlarged Pores

Try a mixture of fresh rosewater for the face and lemon juice to cleanse the skin, at least twice a day. Lemon helps to improve sebum production while rose to alleviate the skin. Just take equal parts of both and mix it well in a bowl. Dip a cotton pad in the mixture and use it to wipe the skin dirt and grime. You can also apply facial cleansers with neem. 

Exfoliate Pores On the Face
The reason behind exfoliating the skin is not to take away its natural oils but just to get rid of the topmost layer of dead cells that sit on the pores. Use a good walnut scrub gently on the face to deeply cleanse the skin, whilst reinvigorating and nourishing the pores. For larger pores on the nose, steam the face and use a face scrub to deeply exfoliate skin and unclog the pores.

Face Mask To Reduce Pore
Use a mixture of Multani mitti and wild turmeric powder face pack to reduce large pores. You can also add rose water to this mixture or the face to make a paste. Take 1/2 tablespoon of turmeric powder with 2 tablespoons of the Multani Mitti and add fresh rosewater for the face to make a paste. Leave it on till it gets semi-dry and washes it off with lukewarm water. Also, finish with a splash of cold water to further minimize the appearance of pores.
