Alcohol Vs Alcohol-Free Hand Sanitizers

Wearing masks and keeping sanitizers with us every time we go outside or even when we at home, are some of the activities which we didn’t usually do before the pandemic. But now these become our part of life as our daily routine. How things in our life which didn’t mean earlier become so important. They are now said to be things that keep us safe. Isn’t it?

Although we are aware of the fact that things are not right around us. And doing stuff like washing your hand, wearing masks whenever we are outside, etc. can save us. However, the use of hand wash is far more better and effective than sanitizers but this would only be true when you wash your hand properly and it’s not going to be practically possible that every time you wash your hand repeatedly.

What about when you are outside? How this even possible for you to wash your hand frequently? In these situations, you need to have an alternative that not only cleans your hand but also equally effective to any soap.

And also if you wash your hand before applying this, you will see a better result then. It quickly kills all the germs that would be present in your hand. But if your hand is filled with dirt or organic matter, then it will not be that more effective in such a case.

Benefits of using Sanitizers

Most of the advantages include;

  • Time-saving, it needs less time than soap
  • Efficiently working as it acts immediately on germs.
  • Easily carrying that means you can keep it with you everywhere.
  • Are effective on bacterial killing.

But the main question is, are they effective on coronavirus? The answer is yes they are. According to the report that was published by WHO, it is recommended that those sanitizers which contain at least 60% of alcohol are effective not only on viruses but germs as well.

How and when to use?

  • In case of not availability of soap, you should use hand sanitizers instead.
  • You must note the label in which the content of the sanitizer will be given. Pick the one that says 60% alcohol.
  • 20 seconds of rubbing after applying mandatory.
  • When dirt or any impure material visible on your hand then you should first wash your hand before using sanitizer.

In the market, there are lots of options there when it comes to hand sanitizers. These options are giving ease to people to choose what they want but at the same time, it is also confusing for most people to decide which option is best for them.

Now if we go brand-wise then there are various brands of sanitizers in the market available. But here I am not going to talk about brands. Take main ingredients by which any sanitizer is made, there are broadly two kinds of hand sanitizers you will find in the market despite their different brand.

Effectiveness of Alcohol-Free Hand Sanitizers

Alcohol-free hand sanitizers contain water and instead of alcohol, it contains a compound called Benzalkonium Chloride with foam and vitamin E. This compound is effective on spores.

  • This type of sanitizer is good for the skin. This keeps your hand the way it is. It provides nourishment to your hand by giving a gentle smoothening.
  • In most of the cases where spores are present on your hand, it acts efficiently on spores killing and also being effective on a variety of pathogens like C.difficile.
  • It is much more affordable than Alcohol Hand sanitizers.
  • They mostly use by those who work in the health sector or those who apply on regular basis.
  • The main advantage of using this type of hand sanitizer for those who can’t stand the smell of alcohol, this might be a good option for them.

Effectiveness of Alcohol Content Hand Sanitizers

As per guidance, most alcohol content hand sanitizers contain 60% of alcohol, and the remaining 40% sterile distilled water. But you should take care of the label before purchasing as there are cases where this alcohol content is higher or lower than this standard quantity.

  • They are effective for killing various germs and bacteria even coronavirus also can be killed by their effect.
  • Their rate of killing germs is quite high and act quickly the time they apply on hands
  • Mostly the usage of them in hospitals or any other healthcare units.
  • The content of alcohol in them must be 60%, not more than that as prescribed by non-government health organizations like WHO.

So which is better?

So here is the question again. Which is better? I am not going to suggest anything to you rather just guide you on the factors that will help you decide on your own.

  • If you care about your skin, then you should probably go with the alcohol-free one.
  • Remember the spores that can’t be seen on your hand visibly, killed by alcohol-free hand sanitizers.
  • Alcohol-free hand sanitizer can stay on your hand longer than alcoholic ones.
  • Alcohol-free is not effective on most germs.

Final thought

The new study found that alcohol-free hand sanitizers are just effective as alcohol content. So it will be now easy for you to which one. I’d say it doesn’t matter though which hand sanitizer you use just keeps yourself safe. As long as any sanitizer gives you safety, it’s better to go with that one.

As the second wave of coronavirus emerges out of sudden, who knows there would be a third or fourth wave there? And we should keep ourselves aware and just keep your surrounding clean.

People ask me that when this virus leaves our country? I heard that most of the countries are free from coronavirus as of now. Everyone has their own opinion on this. I have also.

We have to prepare ourselves for any mishappening and don’t be panic at any situation as long as we are stronger inside, no disease will going to affect us.

So what do you think? Which one of the sanitizer you are going to use
