Should we have freedom or liberty of speech?

As the world is growing daily, many of us have started becoming intolerant towards one another, and this is not because we don't like each other, but most of the time because we have different thought processes, and we cannot or do not want to listen to another person.

To cater to this issue of people in power suppressing the common man, there have been several websites or social media platforms, which seem to give power to the hands of a common man to enforce their so-called "freedom of speech".

As per the constitution, everyone has the freedom to speak their ideas, and no one can stop us from doing so, but is it really good to use this right of ours?

Sometimes, this freedom of speech creates more trouble than resolutions around the world.

I was watching some documentaries about different social media platforms, and how they had been created as a vision of free speech, e.g., Reddit, Twitter, and others as well, but most of them have heavy moderation on them.

It seems as if people behave differently altogether when they know that they will not have to provide their real names in online communities. This also increases their confidence in what they believe about a certain topic.

These beliefs can even be radical, and it becomes difficult to get rid of all the negative and toxic information on these platforms. I usually wonder why several social media giants are moderation machines, that help us all in achieving, what we sometimes forget to do ourselves;

Right to Liberty of Speech

Yes, this is true.

As a citizen of a country, we are entitled to the Right to Liberty of Speech and not the Right to Freedom of Speech. And this is because in the name of freedom, humans start behaving inappropriately, and maybe it is not only about humans. Even if some animal is spoiled, they will use their freedom to harm others.

Similarly, when someone posts something toxic on social media platforms, then we see several abusive comments on that post, and there is a thread of all the conversations that those people have written. This is so bad because we cannot remove hatred by spending time on the internet and abusing everyone.

We all should take responsibility for communicating with each other, even if it is an anonymous conversation with anyone around the world. This liberty of speech will allow us to speak about things under this sky and that too without any hatred or lynching that are part of any country these days.

Therefore, one should try and work on their self, and try not to hurt the sentiment of people. We should try to use our liberty of speech because that has responsibility associated with what we are saying.

If someone doesn't agree with what another person or political party has said, we should try not to use abusive language, but we should try to provide facts to prove our points, but if still, someone doesn't agree with what is correct, then it becomes clear to leave that discussion altogether.

There are several people around the world, that use this right to speak from a different angle altogether and start influencing each other and brainwashing, and this also leads them behind bars. So, although it is good to exercise your right to speech, it should be with responsibility.

If everyone uses their right to speak with responsibility, then the internet will be a much better place to innovate and pursue a passion.
