Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin B3 found in food and used as a dietary supplement and medication. But in recent times it has also been used in the cosmetics industry. It was discovered between 1935 and 1937. It is also on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.

Cosmetic Name (INCI): Nicotinamide

Benefits of Niacinamide for Skin:
Niacinamide can help build proteins in the skin and lock in moisture to prevent environmental damage. Below are some of the benefits of niacinamide for skin that are noteworthy;
1. Niacinamide helps build Skin Immunity: Niacinamide helps build Keratina protein that keeps your skin firm and healthy.

2. Minimizes Redness of Skin: Niacinamide reduces inflammation, which also helps in easing redness from acne or other inflammatory skin issues.

3. Helps in regulating oil secretion in skin: One of the significant benefits of Niacinamide is its ability to regulate oil secretion in our skin. This prevents skin from being comparatively less oily and hence makes your skin supple.

4. Keeps your skin moisturized: For dry skin, Niacinamide is especially helpful, as it helps in locking the moisture inside, which in turn helps us in getting rid of cracked skin, by moisturizing it with essential nutrients.

5. Niacinamide helps in protecting our skin from sun damage: Niacinamide can rebuild healthy skin cells while also protecting them from damage caused by harmful ultraviolet rays.

6. Helps in treating hyperpigmentation: It is seen that 5% niacinamide concentrations can be helpful in lightening dark spots. This happens when someone uses a cosmetic product containing 5% niacinamide for at least 90 days, and this is usually due to increased collagen production.

7. Helps in getting rid of wrinkles: Niacinamide protects our skin from harmful UV rays by rebuilding skin cells rapidly, therefore, our skin feels more supple and stretched, hence the signs of aging are also reduced. For example, you may notice fewer wrinkles after using a cosmetic product with Niacinamide.

8. Protects against oxidative stress: Niacinamide helps build cells in the skin while also protecting them from environmental stresses, like sunlight, pollution, and toxins.

9. Helps in creating the Lipid Barrier: Niacinamide helps the skin in growing a ceramide (lipid) barrier, which can, in turn, helps in retaining moisture. This is beneficial for all skin types.

Benefits of Niacinamide for Hair:
Some of the benefits of Niacinamide for Hair are as follows;
1. Helps in moisturizing hair: Niacinamide is an antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory ingredient. It can help brighten and refresh hairs by helping to retain moisture.

2. Helps in regulating scalp oil: Because Niacinamide is known to regulate the production of oil in skin pores, therefore, if you are using hair products with niacinamide, it will in turn help in regulating the production of sebum in your scalp, and hence making your hairs more healthy.

3. Helps in getting long hair: Niacinamide has a vital role in growing long and strong hair due to its circulation-boosting properties. It also helps in enhancing the appearance and feel of hair, by increasing the body, suppleness, and sheen of hair strands.

4. Helps in improving the texture of hair: Niacinamide also improves the texture of hair that has been physically or chemically damaged by helping to build Keratin.

5. Helps in reducing dandruff: As we have already discussed Niacinamide helps in locking the moisture and regulating the oil secretion, therefore, it also helps in fixing the flaky scalp, hence reducing the dandruff issue.
