Rule Book for this Community

For the Lurkers

Hi, there lurkers,

Yes, we know you're there. We've got tons of visitors who come to thewiki Yekjah every day without a registered account. You are most welcome here - in fact, loads of our members start out lurking on the Forum for a little while before they decide to sign up. Because we value your attention (and let's face it, your traffic), we thought you might appreciate a helping hand that's just for you.

As a lurker, you can't participate in the forum (duh). But you can still soak up all the nuggets of advice and goodness that we have to offer. When you think about it, starting out as a lurker is the safest way to ease into our forum. You can gather great insights and ideas while getting familiar with how things work around here. By the time you have a question and are ready to ask it, you will likely be more comfortable with our rules than many of our other newbies, reducing the risk of doing something silly and earning yourself a warning.

Further down, we are going to discuss our Newbie Guide and different membership levels, and they also contain some handy tips for navigating this forum.

See what I mean? Plus, the more you read about our forum, the more we think you will want to sign up. Sure, you can read our threads while lurking, but you can't benefit from the freebies and offers that members get, and you can't sell to our community of specialists (aka a captive audience). So, dive in and enjoy the lurker phase - it is the perfect way to start your forum journey!

Three Rules of this Forum

Hi there! Welcome to thewiki Yekjah! It's great to see another new member joining this community. Whether you are new to your Computers and Hacking or just looking to expand your knowledge, I'm sure you will find something useful here.

Before we dive into this thread, note that this isn't an exhaustive list of all our rules. I'm only covering the most commonly disputed ones. Go ahead, and read through the rules. I'll wait

Here's the gist of what our rules for new members boil down to;

  1. Don't Sell
  2. Don't Spam
  3. Don't Be Rude

You should be able to tell if you are breaking the rules by asking yourself if you're following these three simple points. If you are unsure, here is a quick rundown of what we expect from newbies:

Don't Sell

Newbie members aren't allowed to sell on thewiki Yekjah. Full Stop. We want to see you contribute to the forum before you use it as a platform for selling. If you are interested in selling your services, here is how to do it;

This option isn't available right away because we need to see you contributing first. Don't try to circumvent the rules by selling through comments or other forum sections.

Don't Spam

Come on. Don't pretend you don't know what spam is.

Fine, here's a list to cover almost all cases of spam on this forum;

Don't Be Rude

This is pretty self-explanatory. We expect users to have a basic level of respect for the forum, our moderators, and other members.

That said, we have a relaxed atmosphere. Members here tend to poke fun at each other, but it’s all in good spirits. However, being malicious or abusive is not tolerated.

Inappropriate Content
Fraudulent/illegal activities are not allowed. We’re flexible as long as you’re not discussing anything illegal.

Receiving a Warning

If you break the rules and get a warning, it's not the end of the world. Only you and the mods can see these warnings and that too on your email. They remind you of the rules. Take the warning on board and learn from it. Many members have received infractions and moved on.

If you’re unsure why you got a warning or think it’s unfair, respond politely to the mod. Don’t be rude or angry, as that will only earn you another warning.

Final Points

Welcome aboard, and happy surfing!

Membership Levels Explained

We get a lot of questions about why you can't do certain things when you first join and what it takes to unlock those features.

Getting Started

When you first sign up, your status is 'Newbie'. Once you've got 15 posts under your belt, you'll move up to 'Registered Member', but don't just post anything to hit these quotas. The point of this setup is to help you get to know the site before you start contacting people directly and sending out links. Don't try to rush because you'll just end up with warnings or other members calling you out.

After that, once you've been an active member, you will be eligible for Power Member Status. This costs $100 per year, allows you to have authority in the community, and gives you the option to start your own marketplace thread, which you can use to promote your products and services.

You can make the payment by contacting us at info@thewiki.in and also sharing your interest in becoming a Power Member.

Once you reach this point, thewiki Yekjah is your Gold Mine. As long as you play by the rules and stay active on the forum, you will be just fine.

So, there you've got it! A roadmap to navigating our forum and unlocking all its features. Happy posting!
